Do you take insurance?
Yes, Open Doors Counseling, Coaching, and Consulting accepts Aetna, United Behavioral Health, Optum, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and several Employee Assistance Programs (EAP’s) for counseling services. Insurance typically does not cover coaching services, but please check with your insurance provider for details on your specific policy. Please contact us to inquire about availability for both insurance and private pay options.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
At your first appointment, you will be asked to arrive early. There will be some initial paperwork to complete so that that the therapist can learn about more about you, gather a history, and sign paperwork to indicate your consent for services and fees. When you meet with the therapist, you will be asked how the therapist can be of assistance, identify your goals and develop a plan to reach them through counseling or coaching services. It is normal to feel nervous at your first appointment because you may be sharing very personal information with the therapist. However, your courage to seek help to create the change you want in your life will make you more comfortable as the process continues.
Will my information be shared with anyone?
No, not unless you request it to be shared. All of your information is kept private and confidential according to federal and state guidelines and will not be shared with anyone without your consent. If you want your information shared with anyone, you are able to sign a release of information form that allows Open Doors to share only the information you have specifically requested.
How often do I need to come?
Frequency of sessions varies depending on what goals you want to work on. Typically, most clients attend one appointment per week.
What is counseling?
Counseling, also known as psychotherapy or therapy, is a process to help create change. It explores the connections between your past experiences, thoughts, and emotions and how they influence the patterns in your life. Counseling focuses on increasing self understanding, learning skills to build on strengths and enhance your quality of life. It can address issues related to healthy relationships, family dynamics, depression, anxiety, self esteem, substance abuse, addiction, domestic violence, managing emotions, healing from past trauma, grief or loss, adjusting to something new in your life, and a variety of other mental health related issues.
Do you provide couples counseling?
Yes, Open Doors Counseling, Coaching and Consulting has providers that offer counseling for couples and individuals.
Do you see children and adolescents?

What is coaching?
Coaching, also known as life coaching, may be what you are looking for. It is typically shorter term than counseling and focuses on providing solution-focused feedback, plan development, and identifying tools related to reaching a specific goal. Coaching is a less intensive process than counseling. It can address areas such as life balance, life transitions, and personal growth.
What is consulting?
Consulting is a professional service where the therapist can provide training, information, and expertise in a variety of areas to another therapist, agency or behavioral health professional.
Do you provide clinical supervision?

How do I pick the right counselor, coach or therapist for me?
It is very important to feel comfortable with the counselor, coach, or therapist you choose. Your relationship with your counselor or therapist contributes a great deal to the success in your treatment. Research the counselor you are considering, look at their background, experience and credentials to make sure they can address the issues you are concerned about. Meet with them to see if you feel comfortable with their approach and style, and get recommendations from friends or people you trust.
What are the risks of working with you?
Counseling and coaching are very personal in nature, where you may be sharing fears, feelings and emotions that you have not previously spoken about or dealt with. Initially, you may feel worse as you start to experience these emotions, but through your treatment you will be able to gain the insights, tools and skills to better manage these emotions and begin the healing process.
